Dating is Hard — Sunday Thoughts 20/02/2022
Hey everyone! Pablo here.
I haven’t quite shared much of my personal life before on the internets, but I have gathered copious amounts of information about the dating scene in this day and age after a few months. What am I to do with that information other than share it on my newsletter? Seems like an entirely reasonable next step to me.
Let me summarise my thoughts, before I go on a self-deprecating tirade.
People have become extremely lazy.
I’m not entirely sure if this is a result of the extreme convenience of the “swiping effect”, of expecting a date or hookup on your door the second you open a dating app, but the moment every little detail doesn’t align with the person’s preconceived notion of “easy”, there is no effort to do anything. Constant last-minute cancellations, perpetual apathy, abrupt ghosting. Let me tell you, it is not a business for the faint-hearted. You have to learn a measure of callousness, or you open yourself to constant disappointment.
Anyway, onto greener fields.
📚Reading
Last week I said I was reading the first book on Cavani’s trilogy “The Black Magician” and... How do I put this with tact?
It’s quite grim.
Like, pretty bad. Again, it might be affected by reading The Name of the Wind alongside it, but it is inching closer and closer to getting DNF’d, and I never do that. There is a part of me that is telling me to carry on, to not judge a book based on two or three chapters but it’s falling terribly flat for me.
On the other hand, The Name of the Wind only gets better and better. Rothfuss, you are a mad genius and I wish I had a quarter, hell, a sixth of your talent.
🖋Writing
Work on the new project has slowed down this past week, and when I say “slowed” I mean it has ground to a screeching, accusatory halt.
Good thing is, I’ve spent some time reflecting on my beta-readers’ feedback and I’ve begun a considerable overhaul of The Broken Oath. Damyra in particular is a character that requires more work and I’m going to extend the chapter count to 20 rather than 16. It will probably add an extra 20-25k words on the total count.
I want to do things right with this first book.
🚑Medicine
I’m tired.
Between you and me, this newsletter has been a tad rushed, the weekend has not treated me very well. More and better next week✌🏼
